Forums: Define.xml
When the Origin Type = Predecessor and the Predecessor variable comes from a Supplemental Qualifiers dataset, the <dataset>.<variable> convention is indeed not going to help you. The Define-XML v2.0 specification has not addressed this use case.
Until this is addressed I recommend you use a convention as the one you mentioned. You should not have to worry about machine readability in the case of Predecessor variables, as the convention to describe the Predecessor source by means of a Description element (<dataset>.<variable>) was never meant to be machine readable.
We will address this issue in Define-XML 2.1, and will discuss whether we should address this also with an erratum for Define-XML v2.0.

Hi,
CDSIC define xml example file indicates Predecessor variables as domain.variable, e.g. DM.ARM.
If the predecessor is from SUPP dataset how is it indicated, e.g. SUPPDM.QVAL where SUPPDM.QNAM = 'SAFETY' ? Is this machine readable ? Thanks.
