On a whim I resaved the comma delimited file back to excel. I then saved the excel as a comma-delimited file which overlaid the original file. This seemed to clear up the problem. My next execution of the OpenCDISC validator tool was successful.
Hi Joyce, it's Mike DiGiantomassso circa Merck 99 to 2010. If you could provide us the IE.xpt file (feel free to remove all data but 1 record), we could diagnose it on our end. If you happen to be in the blue bell location today, you could also stop by our office in Plymouth Meeting if you prefer.
Although the columns you listed above do not have duplicate variable names, it appears the code thinks it does. The error reported may be misleading or incorrect. We can only diagnose by rerunning the validator under the same conditions.
I see. I thought you were using .xpt files. Glad to see you got it resolved.
Hi Mike:
I have tried that. Here are the three things that worked:
1. Saving the file back as Excel with xlsx extension. Then I save it back to csv.
2. Adding more data.
3. Rebooting completely.
I suspect this is a problem with either OC getting lost when parsing comma delimited files that have a lot of empty (i.e. null variables) or Excel when saving it. Another possibility is things not getting properly cleared when attempting to use a modified file. I alway use New Session Clear and sometimes even get completely out of the Validator and restart it again.
I am working in a NJ location. I sent you contact info via the OC website contact diaglogue.
Cheers
Joyce
PS I will send you the file when it happens again. I am in the process of testing a lot of domains for SDTM 3.1.3.
Cheers Joyce
Hi Mike:
If you send me an email I can send you a set of files for the NV Domain (the one which created the error) and the one that fixed it. So far I have isolated two conditions that causes the validation to abrubtly terminate and send out the error message.
1. If you accidentaly have a variable repeated twice, the code seems to lose its place and terminates validation.
2. If data gets accidentally shifted (where it is off by one column or more), then it stops validiation as well.
I tried to attach files in this formun but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Once I press the attach button the file name disappears. If I just press Save and then come back into the item, the file is gone. So I am assuimg the file attachements are not taking place.
Cheers
Joyce
