Missing required 'def:leaf' value

While creating define.xml using define 2.1 specifications, it allows to add metadata for empty datasets. In this case, xpt will not be available to hyperlink in the define.xml. However, while validating this define I am getting a message "Missing required 'def:leaf' value".

Missing required 'def:leaf' value

Always a good idea to have a look in the generated XML itself.
For the "ItemGroupDef", does it have the attribute HasNoData=Yes?
At the end of the ItemGroupDef, is the def:leaf indeed missing? Or is the def:ArchiveLocationID attribute not provided?
You can use a simple tool like NotePad++ to look into the XML of the define.xml.

That will surely help to narrow the problem down.
